What you see is what you get has a whole new meaning to me today. I used to see it as a childish reference of take it or leave it, but now understand the richer deeper meaning.
One of my favorite quotes is "We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are". Both carry with them the same message. That our perception of people, places, events, actions of others as well as things are not as they are, but distorted by our own since of self.
This is a lesson that is reoccurring, but even more so as I heal from my break. I could very easily come from a place of why me, poor me, viewing this whole set of circumstances thru the eyes of a victim. Rather then reacting to the way I think things should be, I am coming from a place of accepting things as they are. Suffering is a very easy mode to move into, obsessing over and not dealing or accepting things as they are. It is a choice. This is not to say that I have not and do not continue to deal with pain and inconvenience, but I choose not to dwell and suffer.
Life is full of lessons and often the most profound of these lessons come from difficult times..
Thankfully nothing is permanent, everything does shift and change. That shift may be in your perspective or your situation. Fortunatly my change, my healing, is a repair of my physical body. For me, knowing the only thing that is permanent is change allows for all sorts of possibilities and opportunities for growth.
This has not always been my mode of being, and at times I do forget, but thru many years of personal ongoing growth I have greater clarity and a different perspective. Having to slow down and at times even stop during my healing process, I have chosen to use that time to be more present, more aware and open.
What I have gotten over these last 7 weeks and 2 days, is a greater appreciation of my foundation, more awareness of my surroundings, and being ok to just be instead of always having to do. As I search to find a balance between the being and the doing I am finding I am also able to Be while I am doing.
So today as you step on your mat, take time to shift your view of your practice. If you go to the mat with a sence of have to, change it to want to. Intead of focusing on your limits, be greatful for your abilities. Open your eyes to a world of sensation and a sensational you!
